NSW tax payers paid $160,000 to have a huge rainbow painted on a city street in Sydney for the World Pride celebration last month.

In the heart of the city, George Street, the enormous LBGTQ rainbow stretched.

The artwork was paid for by the NSW Government, which is excellent news for taxpayers because it was anticipated to cost more than $250,000.

Former City of Sydney councilwoman Angela Vithoulkas predicted that when they found out how much the Pride rainbow cost, the residents would be indignant.

“We should be respectful of every dollar that goes into the coffers of state government because it comes off the back of hard-working, New South Wales Australians,” she said.

“I’m pretty sure if I was the family who has trouble paying electricity, putting food on the table and paying rent right now I would be pretty upset about that $161,500.”

She criticised the city for never seeking input from local business owners or people over the usage of public funds.
